Special Events & Performances

Four live performances were part of ‘Score’: the visuals from each performance have now become part of the exhibition, one additional print per event. Each performance is named after a superDraw patch Ott created to produce particular effects:

Saturday, September 20 (Pataphysics 016), 8 PM: The Sneeze
Thursday, October 2, 7 PM: Opening night reception and performance: Creature’s Delight
Thursday, October 16, 7 PM: Sound of Orange
Thursday, October 23, 7 PM: Ash

Thursday, October 30, 7 PM: Closing night
with full set of prints and artist interview by composer and artist R. Luke DuBois.

Scores is the first solo exhibition of audiovisual artist and software creator Joshue Ott. The exhibition features a series of animated lenticular motion prints:, which are scores made from live improvisations performed with played on superDraw, the artist’s own custom-built audiovisual software instrument with a drawing system at its center.

To create the scores, Ott deconstructs the recording of a live performance into thousands of images, then recombines them in the form of a lenticular print that encodes motion and sound into one physical object. As the viewer moves in relation to the piece, the lenticular lens bends light to reveal subtle shifts: the artwork flickers, morphs, and flows, an impression of the original improvisation.

The exhibition is part of Joshue Ott’s artist residency at Delight Factory, which includes four live performances. After each performance, one new motion print will be generated and exhibited at the following date, alongside a selection of earlier scores. The audience is invited to witness the creation of a new score, each with a theme drawn from Ott's work. The closing night reception will feature a display of all scores, and a presentation on how the works are generated.

WHAT’S THE INTENTION & VIBE?

The idea is to let go and allow ourselves to play.

There are no audiences at an Ego Free Jam. We're all participants, even when we're just quietly enjoying the groove. Jams include musicians and sound makers of all experience levels. They are safe spaces where we explore our creativity and where we strive to support others in their explorations.

The Delight Factory has four areas, the main area is for music making, the bar, back yard, and Vibe Check audiovisual environment are for conversations.

WHY ‘EGO FREE’?
The ego is the part of us that wants to keep us safe in the world. Often it shows up as fear and embarrassment and tries to make us NOT do something. It can also show up as an urge to draw attention to ourselves (“Mama, look!”). When we get the urge to "do it right” out of the way, we can play, improvise, take a little risk, mess up, see that it didn't kill us, and feel the delight in that piece of freedom.

DO I NEED TO BE A MUSICIAN?
Not at all. You can pick up an instrument and improvise, vocalize, move your body, make something, or just listen.

WHAT TO BRING?
You are encouraged to bring an instrument, dancing body, art supplies, favorite toy, whatever inspires you and is fun for you. Or come as you are. We have percussion instruments, a piano, synthesizers, guitars, mics, & more.

IS THIS A REOCCURRING EVENT?
Yes! It's every first Saturday of the month. We alternate between acoustic and electro-acoustic (acoustic on even months). Hear about future jams & other events through our newsletter or FB, IG, BS (@delightfactorynyc).

CAN I COME FOR PART OF IT?
Sure! Try and come before the jams start (8 & 10 PM) but you're welcome any time. Stay for however long or briefly you want!

THE SIX JAM GUIDELINES
- Explore & Play!
- No judgment of others (or yourself - if you’re able to).
- Claim space: Do a solo, stand out, be loud, and remember to stay connected and step back when it’s time for someone else to claim space.
- Listen to others.
- No spectators.
- Have fun!

THE INTENTION IS FOR IT TO BE

Arrival Record Release Party

Lay back and immerse yourself in ambient, ethereal, and cathartic electro gothic sound, paired with textured, geometric light projections. Arrival is the second album of Brooklyn based post-rock project “Oh please, oh please, oh haunt me!” featuring Mitch McCann and Ryan Manchester. Listen to the new album and see Mitch & Ryan perform live.

Schedule

7:00 PM: Doors
8:00-9:30 PM: Album listening party, live performance & video - with intermission
9:30 PM: Time for hanging out
10:00 PM: Close

This is a shoes-off event. Bring cushy socks.

About the Artists

Oh please, oh please, oh haunt me! is an audiovisual project founded by Mitch McCann and Ryan Manchester. While processing deep grief & heart-ache from a recent divorce, Mitch had taken a picture of a strange light anomaly he saw in the sky that he posted on his instagram story jokingly saying  “I’m half ready to start a band just to make this an album cover” which his friend Ryan Manchester saw & replied “come to my studio and play around. if we sound anything like Mount Eerie (which Mitch had attached to the post) I want to be a part of it.” and thus the project “Oh please, oh please, oh haunt me!” began. As both members were processing their individual heart ache and beginning their own spiritual practice the project became a source of therapy for the Duo. Together they intend to help transmute these darker feelings into light by helping themselves and others heal by coming back into our own hearts and waking up to the divine.

FLOW STATE

An electronic sound journey and dance party

Remove your shoes and enter the Delight Factory portal into FLOW STATE. SNARK, Bearded Twin, and Angu will play without stops, taking us on a one hour(ish) continuous journey from ambient river to underworld dance party using electronic hardware, live instruments, effects pedals, and other magic.

The evening will start with a float down a river of ambient soundscapes with SNARK (Arrien Zinghini), allowing us to drop into our bodies and a deeply meditative and present state of flow. Bearded Twin (Jason Nunes) will pick us up in droneland and carry us forward into a more beat-driven trance, where expression can be activated through movement and energy. Angu (Angad Singh) will close out the journey with outer-space dark rhythms to conjure an experience of brutal beats and chaos magic. Dancing is encouraged, or just bliss out to the sounds on a cushion.

Immersive visuals by SNARK will accompany the experience.

Evening flow:

7pm Doors

8-9pm: one continuous flow: SNARK, Bearded Twin, Angu

9-10pm: hang out, keep dancing

$20 suggested donation at the door, cash, cc, or venmo

Artist Bios

Angu (Angad Singh) explores the paradoxical relationship between beatific and brutal impulses, giving voice to the dark regions of the psyche. Through semi-improvisation, his electronic music navigates between intention and intuition, unearthing ambivalent instincts of power, eros, and trance. With roots in heavy music, his latest project utilizes synthesizer, drum machine, and effects pedals to create rhythmic noise at once human and alien.

SNARK (Arrien Zinghini) Snark uses the tenor saxophone as a gateway to deep and untethered experiments in electronic manipulation, repetition, drone, and occasional emotional frenzy. His catalogue of recordings tracks intimate partnerships with fellow adventure-seeking musicians, and takes shape in spacious long-form compositions and spontaneous free improvisation. Inspired in fourth world tradition by rāga, ceremonial icaros, and New Age optimism, the music aims to bring healing from the Other Side.

Bearded Twin is the performance project of Brooklyn-based artist and musician Jason Nunes. Blending live electronics, improvisation, and visuals, Bearded Twin creates immersive performances that explore the tension between the digital and the human. As one half of the band Tiny Techno, Nunes uses sound and rhythm to build humorous sci-fi inspired mini-worlds that pulse with machine energy.

About the Exhibition

"The Sound of Orange is what happens when you have a field of black and white forms, drifting, mysterious, slowly shifting. Suddenly color blossoms across those forms - what do you hear?

Four live performances are part of the ‘Score’ exhibition and residency. Visuals from each performance will become part of the exhibition, one new print per event. Each performance is named after a superDraw patch Ott created to produce particular effects:

Saturday, September 20 (Pataphysics 016), 8 PM: The Sneeze
Thursday, October 2, 7 PM: Opening night reception and performance: Creature’s Delight
Thursday, October 16, 7 PM: Sound of Orange

7:30-7:50 PM: Performance by Joshue Ott, using “The Sound of Orange” patch

Thursday, October 23, 7 PM: Ash
Thursday, October 30, 7 PM: Closing night with full set of prints and artist interview by composer and new media artist R. Luke DuBois.

About the Exhibition

Scores is the first solo exhibition of audiovisual artist and software creator Joshue Ott. The exhibition features a series of animated lenticular motion prints:, which are scores made from live improvisations performed with played on superDraw, the artist’s own custom-built audiovisual software instrument.

$20 suggested donation at the door, cash, cc, or venmo

About the Artists

Mela Closs (she/her, Brooklyn) is a musician and facilitator creating playful experiences grounded in imagination and healing. Her performances explore themes of spirituality, oceanic worlds, connection, and sovereignty. (Hang Up The Moon, Be The Ocean. Ocean of Eros.) She explores ambient drone-heavy soundscapes and a mix of beautiful and ugly vocals in Melangu, Theyya and solo music projects. She leads rituals that celebrate the cycles of the sun and moon rooted in ancestral folk traditions. She also gives private voice lessons with a focus on healing and expression. She loves creating community events that are grassroots, intimate, and joy-centered. If you cross her path, you are likely to go home with a rock, shell, or wisdom from the sea.

Samantha Sea Sea is a New York based, New York native performance artist who works with video, sound, movement, poetry and the human voice. Their work explores multiple themes such as inter generational hopes/traumas/joy, Afro Futurism, magical realism, mental health, Black spiritual traditions, and connection to water. She started working in performance in 2015 after participating in a series of ensemble performances directed by Monica Mirabile. Samantha has performed at Wild Project, Secret Project Robot, MoMA PS1, Essex Flowers, La Plaza Cultural Community Garden and Roulette Intermedium among many other spaces. Most recently she completed a residency at Otion Front Studio. In 2023 she started a pop up performance venue/curatorial project called irrelevent art space that showcases performance art, poetry, and music, and strived to create an environment where people could bring their young children to shows. This project, currently on hiatus, was inspired by Samantha’s experience of becoming a parent and realizing how few forward thinking family friendly venues existed in NYC.

Angad (Angu) Singh explores the paradoxical relationship between beatific and brutal impulses, giving voice to the dark regions of the psyche. Through semi-improvisation, his electronic music navigates between intention and intuition, unearthing ambivalent instincts of power, eros, and trance. With roots in heavy music, his latest project utilizes synthesizer, drum machine, and effects pedals to create rhythmic noise at once human and alien.

Ego Free Jam

Get Tickets

A monthly improvisational sound journey for musicians and non-musicians alike, in a beautiful and cozy space.

WHAT HAPPENS?

Together we go on two journeys, each lasting about two hours, with emphasis placed on listening to and supporting each other. Dancing, stretching, and art making are welcome. Bring an instrument or use ours. There are no spectators, only creators. Allow for the magic to happen!

The opening ritual is an invitation to overcome our resistance to self-expression. Take a little risk and delight in knowing that it didn't kill you ;)

There is a bar area and loungey art installation for breaks and conversations.

WHEN & HOW?

  • 7:30 PM: Doors open, time to settle & mingle

  • 8:00 PM: Jam #1 begins

  • 10:00 PM: Jam #2 begins

This is a shoes-off event. Bring your cushy socks & Let loose.

$ by donation ($25 recommended, depending on your wealth, no one turned away)

- No spectators.
- Have fun!

THE INTENTION IS FOR IT TO BE
* Experimental / Exploratory
* Improvisational
* Spiritual
* Therapeutic

Tiny Techno Dance Party and Closing Night

This is the closing party of the Tiny Techno art exhibition. Enjoy the artwork, intimate beautiful space with club-level sound system and sprung floor, lounge in the chill audiovisual art installation Vibe Check, mingle at the bar, browse our tiny shop, and leave refueled and ready for the weekend.

About Tiny Techno

Tiny Techno is an audiovisual art project and collective created by Bearded Twin (aka Jason Nunes) and vocalized by Carley Moore to help you laugh, dance, and consider your own role in outer space. Are you an astronaut, an alien, a black hole, a spaceship, an angel, or a being unknown to earthlings?

The visual expression of Tiny Techno began with Jason’s childhood drawings of aliens and spaceships, sparking a sense of excitement and escapism. Over time, this creative energy expanded into music, art, and writing, though without a clear direction.

A turning point came with a voice text from Carley, which seamlessly fit into the music already in progress. Her words carried a playful, musical quality that came to life when combined with sound.

To create the imagery, Nunes collaborated with AI, which he recognizes presents ethical concerns, and it also enables the creation of images that complement the music, allowing for a cohesive artistic vision as a solo endeavor, with Carley as the vocalist.

*Donations help us offer experiences at Delight Factory and support artists we partner with. If you're able, donating the full amount is a way to acknowledge your generosity and/or privilege and support someone who would not otherwise be able to access this experience. If you're experiencing financial hardship, pay as you are able. No one will be turned away.

CANCELED: Ego Free Jam Acoustic

CANCELED

Due to renovations in the building we have to cancel this month’s jam. We’ll be back on Saturday May 3rd. Thank you for your patience.

By donation ($20-25 recommended)

The Ego Free Jam is a monthly night of improvisational music for musicians and sound makers of all skill levels. We alternate between electro-acoustic and acoustic. Acoustic jams are on even months.

Acoustic Ego Free Jam

This month leave the amps at home and show up with your favorite acoustic instrument: hand pans, flutes, didgeridoos, banjos, ukuleles, guitars, or your voice! We’ll supply an acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, octave mandolin, piano, various hand drums, and percussion instruments.

What happens?

Together we go on two improvisational music and sound making journeys, each lasting about 2 hours, with emphasis placed on listening to and supporting each other. There will be space for dancing and body movement, feel free to make art, or just listen.

There are no spectators, only creators. Allow for the magic to happen!
